Description

The North and East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire Comprehensive Local Research Network are currently one of 25 Local Research Networks in England. We are dedicated to promoting and expanding research so that all patients and healthcare professionals in our region are able to participate in, and benefit from, clinical research in all areas of disease and healthcare.

Public involvement in research

The Patient and Public Involvement team in our network are currently in the process of establishing a database of contacts of special interest groups and individuals who have agreed to be involved in research. Not as part of clinical trials, although they are more than welcome to do so, but more in the context of supporting researchers in the development of new studies. This could involve:

  • Identifying new topics for research and prioritise these studies
  • Joining  steering or advisory groups for research projects
  • Reviewing research proposals i.e. help to develop protocols and questionnaires
  • Assisting with publicising research results
  • Reviewing new study patient information leaflets
  • Assisting researchers to ask the right questions in the best ways
  • Assisting with the interpretation of results
  • Promoting overall good research

We regularly keep database members informed of both local and national calls for patient and public involvement, workshops and events whether it is via email or via our bi-yearly patient and public involvement newsletter.

Furthermore we are currently in the process of developing a public and patient involvement pack for local specialty groups and researchers. This pack will include a guide and toolkit for specialty groups, templates for research posters to be displayed in clinical areas, presentations which can be tailored for patient screens in waiting areas, database information for researchers and a role description for research ambassadors.
